Car Tax Rise Halted?

11/11/08

Good news for Wickford Cars’ customers!

Today’s Daily Telegraph reports that the proposed increases in Vehicle Excise Duty (car tax to you and me) are likely to be postponed.  The tax rises were strongly opposed by Wickford Cars as they were retrospective and penalised hard-working families who had bought cars which were registered before 2006.  The proposed tax would have meant significant increases.

It seems that the campaign and lobbying has been successful and the chancellor should be making an announcement shortly.

David Anderson, Sales Director at Wickford Cars said "This is a victory for car owners.  The government had no right attempting to impose this retrospective tax.  It also means that buyers of second hand cars, especially those registered before 2006 can now have peace of mind that they won’t be stung by the higher tax rates this year"
