Pre-Budget Report

On 11th November, we reported on the speculation, that the Chancellor of the Exchequer might delay the increases to Vehicle Excise Duty (car tax).   In the end, he didn’t go quite that far - but the end result is still very good news for customers of Wickford Cars.

From April next year, 6 new bands will be introduced, taking the total to 13 bands.  However, no car will see its tax rise by more than £5.  It was also announced that in 2010, no car will see its tax rise by more than £30.

On fuel, the news is that while fuel duty will go up from 1 December, this is cancelled out by the reduction in VAT to 15%.

The other measures in the pre-budget statement are designed to get people spending money.  Reductions in VAT, bringing forward increases to child benefit, and increasing personal tax allowances have been introduced to leave you with more of your own money.  The idea is that you will spend it and help lift the country out of recession.  But this will only work if people spend their money in Britain - it doesn’t help British jobs if everyone buys a Korean plazma TV.  So do your patriotic duty and come and spend your extra money at Wickford Cars!
